The results of our “Top Doctors” survey come right from the most knowledgeable source of all

The results of our “Top Doctors” survey come right from the most knowledgeable source of all — the doctors themselves. To rate the physicians, we arranged for questionnaires to be mailed to the 2,000-plus members of the Greater Louisville Medical Society. The survey asked: If you or a member of your family were in need of medical care or treatment, who among Louisville-area doctors would you choose to provide medical care in the following specialties? Those surveyed could list up to five doctors, in order of preference, in the primary-care categories of family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics gynecology and pediatrics. For the specialists, respondents were asked to list up to three doctors. The points were then tallied to compile the listings that follow, with top-ranking physicians listed in each specialty. The doctors are listed alphabetically within each category and the number of doctors listed in specialties varies according to the number of doctors receiving mentions in each field. All doctors listed on these pages received multiple mentions from their peers. We make no claims that this is a statistically valid survey, and that’s a major reason we have not ...

Brandel Chamblee: Top 25 impactful moments of the last 25 years, Nos. 21-25

(Editor’s note: For Golf Channel’s 25th anniversary, Brandel Chamblee reveals his top 25 impactful moments over the last 25 years. Click here to listen to Chamblee’s podcast with Jaime Diaz, revealing Golf Channel’s official top 25 moments.) In 1984, Gary McCord averaged the fewest putts of anyone on Tour, with 28.57 putts a round, and when he was given the award for this feat, he thanked everyone for acknowledging that he had missed more greens than anyone else on Tour. He hadn’t, in fact, missed the most greens of anyone, though he was close, finishing 163rd in greens in regulation. But he certainly pointed out the error in such a simplistic calculation as putts per round. From 1981 to 1990 – 10 years in a row – Calvin Peete led the PGA Tour in fairways hit. In an era when accuracy mattered, nobody was more accurate than Peete, which explains why he was able to win 12 times in his career – or does it? Up until 2011, statistics on the PGA Tour were simply about whether a player hit or missed a fairway or green. Stats didn’t distinguish between a ball hit out of bounds, or one that missed the fairway by a foot. Nor did they distinguish between a ball hitt...

It just reported another doozie, a loss of $408 million in the second quarter, after its $702 million loss in the first quarter, for a total loss in the first half of $1.1 billion. In its 14-year history, it has never generated an annual profit. It has real and popular products and surging sales, but it subsidizes each of those sales with investor money. And here’s where it’s different this time: investors don’t care. They dig how the company has been consistently overpromising and underdelivering. They dig the chaos at the top. They dig everything that should scare them off. Yeah, its shares plunged [TSLA] 11% afterhours today, but that takes those shares only down to where they’d been on May 1. Big deal. Shares are down 32% from the peak. But their peak should have bee...

YPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd”> A majority of the Paddock Lake Village Board is not in favor of changing the existing ordinance regarding the keeping of chickens within the village. The matter was discussed at the committee of the whole meeting last week after a resident of 247th Avenue asked for the current regulations to be revised. The key provision in the current ordinance calls for a chicken coop to be located no closer than 125 feet from a lot line. Village officials say the average lot in Paddock Lake is 50 feet by 100 feet, meaning the ordinance makes chicken keeping available to only a handful of properties. Village attorney Jeff Davidson pointed out small lots and compact neighborhoods made Paddock Lake largely unsuited for chicken keeping. There were board members on both sides of the issue, but only two that favored making chicken keeping more accessible. (There currently are just six board members with the recent death of Trustee Gary Kaddatz and his seat being vacant.) Also opposing changes to make chicken keeping more accessible were Trustees Barb Brenne...

Material Matters: What Happens to the Valuable Wood Removed from Boardwalks? (And How Can You Get Some?)

We know that both Coney Island and Atlantic City used valuable Ipe (and in AC’s case, later, Ipe-like Cumaru) to make their boardwalks, starting in the 1960s. With a 25-year lifespan, the lumber in those boardwalks was completely replaced once or possibly even twice. So what happened to all of the old wood? Just because it was no longer suitable as decking didn’t mean the wood was completely rotted through, as the planks could always be machined down and cut into smaller pieces to be reworked. Well, it seems the traditional thing to do with that still-valuable wood…was to throw it out. According to an article in an Atlantic City local paper from 2013, Thankfully, that same article points out that the latest batch of wood to be removed was auctioned off. “Designers…turned [the old planks] into custom-built tabletops, theater floorboards and outdoor benches.” As people have gotten hip to the fact that huge lots of Ipe and Cumaru are becoming available, the city now expects construction companies bidding on Boardwalk renovation projects to adjust their bids accordingly; the thinking goes that construction crews can make extra money by saving the ...

Chrome vs. Anodized Aluminum for Shiny Cars Register ico-close ico-supplier ico-white-paper-case-study ico-product ico-cad

Sign up here to get the day’s top stories delivered straight to your inbox. Is chrome’s future less than bright? Will anodized aluminum, which some argue is just as brilliant as chrome, take its place? Here’s the latest in automotive finishing. Automotive finishing trends are driven by the economy and the environment. While economic pressures are forcing shops to find cost-effective finishing processes, environmental concerns are pushing potentially harmful coatings such as hexavalent chromium (hex chrome) out and leaving an open door for chrome alternatives such as anodized aluminum. Hex chrome’s decades-long job as a corrosion inhibitor in the automotive industry is in jeopardy. Its days became numbered when the European Union issued a directive banning its use as a conversion coating on all cars in all EU nations, starting in July of 2003. The directive specified that after July 1, 2003, vehicles cannot be manufactured with over two grams of hex chrome. In response, global companies, such as General Motors and Ford,...

Unghie.

Labels are simple and economical, and they can accommodate a lot of information. However, labels can

Labels are simple and economical, and they can accommodate a lot of information. However, labels can be labor-intensive to apply, and they take up space. They’re also susceptible to damage. Like labels, heat shrink tubing can be printed with text and graphics—and they provide the additional benefit of environmental and electrical protection. On the other hand, heat shrink tubing is expensive, and it, too, can be labor-intensive to apply. Hot stamp marking produces durable and legible markings on soft and hard insulation materials. However, it’s slow and inflexible. And, because it creates an embossed imprint, hot stamping could adversely affect the integrity of thin insulation. Laser marking is fast and flexible, and it produces durable marks on a range of insulation materials. On the down side, laser marking equipment is very expensive. Ink-jet printing offers many of the advantages of these other methods, but few of their limitations. This noncontact method is fast, flexible, inexpensive and easy to maintain. Ink-jet printers can be integrated before or after automatic cutting and stripping equipment for continuous production. Printing takes place on the fly—that is, while the...

Stricter EU CO2 regulations will reshape vehicle platforms and car design | Article | Car Design News CDN- Car Design News CDN

As OEMs try to reduce CO2 and transition to electric vehicles in the face of the high fines, we expect a profound impact on vehicle design. Although OEMs in Europe are facing billions of euros worth of fines as stricter CO2 emission regulations come into effect next year, the acceleration towards electric and hybrid powertrains is resulting in new innovations in vehicle platform engineering to reduce energy consumption. At Automotive from Ultima Media, we foresee big changes in vehicle design and engineering as manufacturers strive for CO2 savings, and especially as they move away from modified ICE platforms. In our latest report, “Climate Change vs. Carmakers”, we forecast a significant shift towards vehicle electrification as carmakers try to meet the targets, which phase in during 2020 and 2021, and will tighten further over the next decade. According to Daniel Harrison, automotive analyst and author of the report, many carmakers in Europe have so far electrified their range by modifying existing models. The Volkswagen e-Golf, for example, is based on a standard Golf, using the MQB platform shared by a large range of petrol and diesel vehicles across the group. The electric ...
